Strolling on the “miroir d’eau” in Bordeaux, plastic creatures come to life with the wind. These are uncommon sculptures, designed by Dutch artist Theo Jansen, which have left the beaches in the Netherlands to be exhibited in Bordeaux from October 1 during the city’s Festival of Arts.

“Since 1990, I am very busy with making new forms of life, and this is one of the results of it. So this, I call them ‘animals’ — they don’t eat, but they get their energy from the wind, and they live on the beaches of the Netherlands.” Theo Jansen. ©AFP
