Art aficionados, collectors and the media got a glimpse of a large-scale Picasso painting and other works of art on Monday (October 3) ahead of the Sotheby’s Hong Kong Autumn Sales auction later this week.
The showcase piece, “Femme assise à la galette des rois”, is a portrait of Pablo Picasso’s second wife Jacqueline Roque holding a traditional French dessert, and is expected to fetch between $7.7 million to $10 million, according to Rishika Assomull, an art specialist with Sotheby’s. The work will go under the hammer for the first time after being part of a private collection for over 50 years.
Another auction on October 7 also features German artist Gerhard Richter’s painting “Abstraktes Bild”, while an 11.15-carat fancy vivid pink diamond ring, called “The Williamson Pink Star”, will go under the hammer on October 5. Via Reuters
