An Athena statue unearthed during an excavation in Türkiye’s Aegean province of Izmir in the 1930s started to be exhibited in the Izmir Archeology Museum.
Archaeologist Elif Erginer, Deputy Director of Izmir Archeology Museum, said the sculpture was unearthed during excavations in Bayrakli in the 1930s.
“And then It was placed in a separate safe for integration. We do not know the reason, but then the necessary process on the sculpture were not carried out”,” she said.
Erginer said during the classification works, the sculpture was discovered again, and added that: “And its parts have been integrated for display in the showcase so that it can meet with our valuable visitors.”
It is thought that the Athena statue was made in the period between 300 and 600 BC.
