The video installation “Animal spirits” by artist Steyerl runs at the Ottoneum. With Steyerl, one of the internationally most important artists is withdrawing her work from the documenta as a result of the anti-Semitism scandal. The 56-year-old, who lives in Berlin, announced her decision in an email to the art exhibition in Kassel on Friday, according to AFP.
”I will no longer take part in documenta fifteen.” artist Hito Steyerl.
According to ZEIT ONLINE, Hito Steyerl wrote: „I will no longer take part in documenta fifteen. I have no faith in the organization’s ability to mediate and translate complexity. This refers to the repeated refusal to facilitate a sustained and structurally anchored inclusive debate around the exhibition, as well as the virtual refusal to accept mediation.”

The artist also pointed out “unsafe and underpaid working conditions for some of the staff,” which are in stark contrast to the official rhetoric of documenta fifteen.
Meron Mendel, the director of the Anne Frank educational institution, announced his withdrawal from the consultant position for the documenta in Der Spiegel.
The film Animal Spirits by Hito Steyerl is shown together with an interactive simulation to display the state of the biological, economical, and chemical system of INLAND in form of AI-animated paleolithic cave paintings.
